Leadership Transition Officially Underway at Dale Street School

Dale Street School principal Kim Cave has been with the Medfield School District for 26 years and will now serve students as the Director of Curriculum and Assessment K-12. Veteran educator Arlene Argir of Ashland will serve as interim principal.

Medfield Patch reported on Sept. 20 that longtime Dale Street School Principal Kim Cave will be leaving the school to accept a position in the Medfield Public School’s district office, becoming the Director of Curriculum and Assessment K-12.

That position was left vacant after the retirement of Pam Shufro earlier this month. Now, with the first full month of school drawing to a close, the transition is officially underway.

“It is with mixed emotions that I announce I will be leaving my position as principal of as of Oct. 28,” said Cave in a letter to parents last week. “While it saddens me to leave Dale Street, the school [where] I started my career as an educator, I look forward to the challenge of the next educational level. I believe this is an opportunity that will allow me to make a difference for all students K-12.”

“I feel very fortunate to have found such a passionate and dedicated educator to take my place,” said Cave of the new interim principal.

Argir recently retired from the Ashland School District, where she worked for 32 years as a teacher, team chairperson, director of special education, and principal for one, then two, schools, according to a letter she sent to Dale Street School parents and students last week.

For eight years, Argir also taught classes and supervised student teachers in the education department at Framingham State University.

“As a principal these past 10 years, I was responsible for grades 1-5 in two schools," she said. "I recently retired but quickly realized that I missed the students and the rigor of running a school. I was fortunate enough to be given this opportunity by Mr. Maguire and I am anxious to begin work in Medfield." She noted she had actually supervised student teachers at the in the early 1990s. "I am eager to get to know the parents … as Medfield has a wonderful reputation for being extremely supportive of education.”

The public will have a chance to meet Argir during an informal introduction reception on Oct. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Dale Street cafeteria. Visit www.medfield.net (Dale Street) for more information.
