New Veterans Plaque to be Unveiled
Medfield Group to Dedicate Replacement Veteran’s Plaque at the Dale Street School
After several months of research and hard work, the Medfield Public School Veterans Plaque Committee in cooperation with the Medfield School System is planning a dedication ceremony on Friday May 27th at 10 AM at the Dale Street School. The public is invited to the unveiling which will occur after a traditional Memorial Day Assembly in the school gym. School Principal Kim Cave notes “that the school children are very active in participating in this annual event. Typically we ask the students to invite any of their family members who are veterans. Many veterans come in their military uniforms and are officially recognized and receive the appreciation and thanks for their service to their country.”

This year will be extra special since the school will be unveiling a new plaque purchased through local donations. The existing plaque erected in 1944 honors those young men and women who attended Hannah Adams Pfaff High School (HAPHS), now the Dale Street School and went on to join the armed forces in WWII. The original plaque erected is in poor condition and warranted replacement. The Dale Street School students actively participated by raising almost $1,000 in proceeds from a gala talent show.

Several of the veterans honored on the plaque will be guests of honor at the ceremony and will assist in the unveiling. Nancy Kelly-Lavin stated that “ she is so glad that her father William “Bill’ Kelly whose name is on the plaque will be on hand supported by family members as he helps with the unveiling”.
