Annual Art 'N Bloom Exhibit to Welcome Spring to Medfield Library

Editor's note: The following press release was submitted by Nancy Tella, president of the Medfield Garden Club.

For the past 10 years, Art ‘N Bloom, a joint effort between the Medfield Garden Club and the art department, has brought an early touch of spring to the .

This year’s edition promises to be brighter and bolder than ever and will be held from Wednesday, March 21 through Sunday, March 26.

The festival of innovative student art and fresh flowers is presented by members of the Garden Club and the art faculty of Medfield High School.  Approximately two dozen drawings, paintings, photographs and collages will be interpreted in flowers and spread across the library for four days.

Meg Drew and Kate Jones of the Medfield High School art faculty chose representative works from ninth to 12th grade art classes. Members of the Garden Club then select the works that inspire them and create floral arrangements, which capture the color, movement, and dynamic of that art.

“Art “N Bloom  is such a nice collaboration between the Medfield Garden Club, the library and the faculty and students of the art department at Medfield High School," said Nancy Tella, presient of the garden club. "It is a wonderful way to showcase the talent of our art students and the creativity of the Garden Club members - all displayed within the beautiful setting of our Library. Each year brings a new set of art work and every year the displays are more impressive.”

Drew, an art teacher at Medfield High School, said the annual event is a favorite among students as well.

“It’s another opportunity for students to get a wide showing of their work in the community, and to see the work translated into a different creative medium. My students love to see their art paired with flowers.”

Art ‘N Bloom chairman Loretta Carrigan added the showcase provides a welcome burst of color at the end of winter.

“This is an event our members look forward to,” she said. “March is typically a cruel month in New England. The calendar says it’s spring, but there’s nothing yet to show for it. For four days, we bring a sense of a garden make to the Medfield Library at one of the dreariest times of the year.”

The Medfield Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the on Main Street. The meetings are open to visitors and prospective members. There is no charge to attend meetings as a guest.
