Around Town: Support the Medfield High Softball Team Tuesday at Italian Groceria

The Medfield High School softball team will be holding a team fundraiser on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at . 

When you dine in at the Italian Groceria, the softball team will earn 30 percent of all sales from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of the MHS/Boosters  Fundraiser Night.
There is a variety of delicious foods to choose from, including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and ready made meals-to-go. You can call ahead to order for pickup at (508) 359-8117. This is a great way to support the team and is appreciated by the Warriors. They hope to see you there.

 The 18th Annual Medfield High School Fashion Show is Friday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in The Lowell Mason Auditorium at the high school. See the MHS seniors model fashions provided by local shops in “Medfield High School Class of 2011 Presents the Red Carpet.”

 This Fashion Show is the main fundraiser for the All Night Graduation Party, the town's farewell celebration for graduating seniors.  Featured fashions come from Allure of Westwood, Sassy of Westwood, Pretty is Pink of Franklin, Macy's at the Natick Collection, 344 at Legacy Place, BCBG Max Azria at Wrentham Premium Outlets, Stella & Dot, Delux Tux of Walpole, WW Tux of Norwood and Read and White Tux of Needham.

 Local merchants, parents of all-age students and Medfield residents whose children have long ago graduated participate in fundraising and volunteering to make the All Night Graduation Party happen.  The Fashion Show is the fundraising kick-off.

Support The MHS Girls' Hockey Team Thursday at Iorio Arena

The Medfield High School girls' hockey team wants your support for their first round state tournament game Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Iorio Arena in Walpole. The Warriors encourage all hockey fans to attend Thursday’s game against Ursuline Academy. MHS finished the regular season with a 14-2-4 record and enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Division 2 South tournament. 

Friends of the Library Accepting Submissions for Creative Writing Contest

The Friends of the Medfield Library are now accepting submissions for the 2011 Amy Fiske Scholarship and Creative Writing Awards competition.

The competition is open to young fiction writers and poets who attend Medfield High School. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 18 by 2:30 p.m.

Students interested in applying for the Amy Fiske Scholarship ($2,000 – open to Seniors only), the Undergraduate Prose Prize ($500 – open to grades 9-11), or the All-School Poetry Prize ($500 – open to grades 9-12) should contact Ms. Malchodi in the High School Writing Center for details or Susan Sipple, Creative Writing Awards Coordinator for the Friends at (508) 359-1871 or folwritingcontest@gmail.com.

Winners will be announced at Senior and Undergraduate Recognition nights in May.

MHS Theatre Society Prepping for 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Rehearsals for Medfield High School Theatre Society's yearly musical are in full swing. Up this year is  Rodger and Hammerstein's hilarious musical comedy, "Once Upon a Mattress." Mark your calendar for Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m.

Scholarship & Teacher of the Year Applications Available

Applications are now being accepted for The United Regional Chamber of Commerce's high school scholarships and for 2011 Teacher of the Year nominations.

Three $1,000 scholarships will be distributed through the Chamber's Jacqueline C. Stack Scholarship Program, two $500 Metalor Technologies scholarships, one $500 Attleboro Supervisors' and Foremen's Club scholarships and one $500 National College Assistance Services scholarship. Applicants for the scholarship must be the son or daughter of an employee of a Chamber-member business, be a high school senior who has applied to an accredited four-year college, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and perform uncompensated community service. Completed applications must be received by April 15.

The Teacher of the Year program recognizes an outstanding teacher in one of the 16 communities the Chamber serves. To nominate a teacher, please call the Chamber for a nomination form. Nominations must be received by April 15.

Scholarship recipients and the 2011 Teacher of the Year will be recognized at a celebratory breakfast. Call the Chamber at (508) 222-0801 for Teacher of the Year and scholarship applications.
