Medfield Parks and Recreation Article 20 for Town Meeting Monday April 29 at the High School

Information about Medfield Parks and Recreation Article 20 for Town Meeting Monday, April 29th at the High School

Greetings Medfield Residents,

We are reaching out to our Parks and Recreation supporters and the Medfield community at large to help clarify Article 20 for the Town Meeting on Monday April 29, 2013.  Several people have contacted the Parks & Recreation Department confused by the two articles requesting use of the same piece of property on Lot 3 on Icehouse Road.

Article 20 reads as follows:

“To see if the Town will vote to transfer care, custody, maintenance and control of a parcel of land off Icehouse Road, shown on the Board of Assessors’ Maps as map 56, lot 044 from the Board of Selectman to the Park and Recreation Commissioners for recreational purposes, or take any other action in relation thereto.”

The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for organizing many youth sport programs and field requests, and has seen an increase in the demand for more athletic fields.  Our goal for this property is to develop two athletic fields to ease the over use of our town fields.  The following represents our view on this Article:

  1. The Warrant Committee recommends passage of Article 20.
  2. We presented Article 20 at the April 2, 2013 Selectman’s meeting.
  3. This is the last Town owned parcel of land suitable for the town to use for fields.
  4. Town owned land should be used for Town use for the residents of Medfield.
  5. This will reduce the traffic and risk associated with the over use of McCarthy Park.
  6. The athletic fields periodically need rest to maintain a safe playable surface. Currently we cannot reduce the use demand of the athletic fields.
  7. Funding will be raised by the users and supporters of the fields at no cost to the town.

Please make a concerted effort to attend Town Meeting on Monday, April 29, 2013 and vote yes for Article 20.  You may contact the Parks and Recreation Commissioners or the Department for clarification of this article.  Please forward this to a Medfield resident and thank you for your support.

Respectfully Your Park and Recreation Commissioners and Staff,

Mel Seibolt
Tom Caragliano
Nick Brown

Kirsty Young
James Snyder, Director of Parks and Recreation
