Veterans’ Service Agent Receives $2K Raise from Town

Medfield Board of Selectmen approved Town Administrator Michael Sullivan's request to adjust Medfield Veterans' Service Agent Ron Griffin's base salary by $2,000.

The town of Medfield rewarded Ron Griffin, the town’s veterans’ service agent with a $2,000 raise in base salary at Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting for the outstanding work he has done in providing benefits and services to the community's veterans.

Town Administrator Michael Sullivan recommended the Board of Selectmen vote to approve the salary adjustment at Tuesday’s meeting.

“He has been doing an excellent job to reach the veterans,” Sullivan said. “He’s been over and above the work he has done at . He goes down to the Center at Medfield and reaches out to people down there. He’s gone to the American Legion and he’s going to homes if necessary. I think he has done a great job in the town and I think we should recognize that.”

The selectmen agreed, approving Sullivan’s recommendation.

“I believe you’re doing a great job,” selectman Ann Thompson told Griffin at Tuesday’s meeting.

Sullivan said the salary adjustment will increase Griffin’s base pay from $7,029 to $9,029.

About the Veterans’ Service Agent Position

According to the town’s website, Medfield veterans’ services agent is a “part-time position that supports our in community veterans and their families. This is accomplished by providing information on the many programs available to veterans and their families and assisting them in obtaining those benefits.

“Within the community, veterans’ services accepts ceremonial responsibilities that enrich citizen awareness of the history, sacrifice and accomplishments of our nation’s veterans. While not in direct affiliation with the Federal Veterans Administration, veteran services does assist in explaining Federal VA provided benefits. As a veteran advocate, veterans services will assist in submitting of claims as well as developing important supporting documentation for claims approval. In direct affiliation with the Massachusetts Department of Veteran Services, veterans services coordinates the implementation of state provided benefits to community veterans and their families.”
