Updated Notice from CDC and FDA Regarding Contaminated Steroids
On Thursday, the Medfield Board of Health posted an updated letter from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
On Wednesday, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health advisory notice regarding the multi-state outbreak of fungal meningitis and joint infections associated with contaminated steriod injections.

In part, it says that, "As of October 16, 2012, a total of 233 cases, which includes 2 peripheral join infections and 15 deaths, have been reported in 15 states...All cases as of October 16 have occured after injections with methylprednisolone acetate products from one of the three lots recalled on September 26" from the New England Compounding Center in Framingham.

The CDC said that everyone who suffers any of the following symptoms within one to four weeks of an injection should see a doctor promptly.
The symptoms include:

- fever
- new or worsening headache
- nausea
- neck stiffness
- sensitivity to light
- new weakness or numbness
- increasing pain, redness, or swelling at injection site
- new neurological deficit (consistent with deep brain stroke)
