Two Medfield Officers Assisted in Bombing Aftermath

Two Medfield police officers helped with the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Within 40 minutes of the Boston Marathon bombings, two Medfield police officers (and their gear) were headed to Boston with a cruiser, according to Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr.

"I realized that many Medfield residents were running the Marathon and many more family members and friends would be along the route to support them. So there was never any question as to whether or not Medfield would assist, obviously we would," Meaney said.

"As Chief, I understood that this would be a long term commitment of days, not hours, in order to support the long list of tasks that would need to be done," Meaney said, noting the officers were there each day and night at different times, doing various tasks -- security, patrol, searches, etc. -- but each returned to the scene during the early morning hours on Friday to assist with security and searching.

Both officers were authorized to assist as long as they were needed but to keep the Department updated so Meaney could fill their Medfield shifts as needed.

Said Meaney, "To say that I am proud of them and their commitment to Medfield and the METRO LEC program doesn’t even start to scratch the surface. This pride not only reflects on them but also the entire Medfield Police Department who supported them while they were assigned to Boston.
