Town Garage is Down, Salt Shed is Up

The metal building is down, and the new salt/sand shed is up.

Things are moving along down at the old town garage.

After years of pleading for a new structure replace the outdated 1960s building, town meeting approved a new building in April and demolition began this week on the $9+ million project.

The demolition of the old blue mostly-metal building started on Monday and finished on Wednesday.

Highway Superintendent Ken Feeney said the project is running ahead of schedule, partially because DPW employees were able to do a great deal of the preparation.

The detention pond is finished, the salt/sand shed is almost completed, the remainder of the old building will be removed this week, and construction of the new building will start shortly.

Feeney said it will take about 12 months for the new building to be completed, therefore, this year the DPW will operate out of the new salt/sand shed (the old salt salt shed still has salt in it which will be used this winter).
