There's a New Board in Town, Meeting Notes

On Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen welcomed new member Richard DeSorgher and voted Mark Fisher as the new chairman.


At its first meeting after the annual town election, the Board of Selectmen welcomed new member Richard DeSorgher who was sworn into office at the beginning of the meeting by Town Clerk Carol Mayer.

The Board also voted Mark Fisher as Chairman and Osler Peterson as Clerk.

DeSorgher asked that the selectmen now start their meetings with a Moment of Silence for those serving in the military.

At its meeting on Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen:

  • Agreed to support Veterans' Service Agent Ron Griffin's warrant article regarding the Veterans' Work Off Program.
  • Heard an update from the Medfield Garden Club regarding its upcoming projects.
  • Met with members of the Medfield Parks and Recreation Department to discuss its FY14 budget and a warrant article asking for use of Lot 3 on Ice House Road.
  • Proclaimed April 26 as Medfield's Official Arbor Day
  • Met with Stephan Nolan, Chairman of the Medfield State Hospital Redevelopment Committee, regarding the committee's next steps.
  • Reviewed town meeting warrant articles in preparation of the April 30 meeting
  • Signed the warrant for the April 30, 2013 special town election
  • Signed the warrant for the April 30, 2013 special state primary
  • Received an invitation for an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Matthew R. Woodard on April 27 at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ.
  • Approved the March 19, 2013 meeting minutes
  • Authorized Chairman Fisher to sign a bid form for the Infiltration and Inflow Reduction Program.
  • Agreed to pursue Peterson's suggestion for a town-wide spring cleanup. The selectmen will work with the Department of Public Works to implement the program. 
  • Received a letter from the Town of Brookline outlining their reasons for consideration to withdraw from Norfolk County government.
  • Received a letter of resignation from Board of Appeals member Thomas Reis
  • Approved a common victualler license for a "concession wagon" for Stephen Scanlon for the spring through fall.
  • Approved a one-day wine and malt beverage license for Friday nights in April for Blue Moon Bagel Cafe.
  • Approved a one-day wine and malt beverage permit for event "Murder Mystery Night" at the library on April 6.
  • Granted permission to Medfield Youth Soccer to post signs announcing fall soccer registration.
  • Granted permission to the Lions Club and Medfield High School Tens Organization to hold a car wash fundraiser behind Town Hall on May 18.
  • Granted permission to Zullo Gallery to use Gazebo Park on May 18 from 7-11:30pm for its 4th Annual Art Festival.
  • Approved request from the Library and the Cultural Council to use Gazebo Park for Medfield Green Day activities on May 4 from 12-3pm.
  • Granted permission for Medfield Green Day to post signs advertising Medfield Green Day for two weeks prior to the May 4 event.
  • Granted permission to Medfield Youth Baseball & Softball Committee to hold the annual Opening Day Parade on April 28 and to post signs announcing the event. Rain date is May 5. 
  • Learned Sen. Timilty, and Reps. Garlick and Winslow will be at the selectmen's May 16 meeting.
