Selectmen's Meeting Notes: Thompson Won't Run Again, Beavers to be Trapped, MHS Amnesty International to Hold Vigil

Here's a glance at what happened at the Nov. 20 meeting of the Board of Selectmen.

The Board of Selectmen met Tuesday night to discuss the following business.  

APPOINTMENTS

Met with Walid M. Makouk who hopes to obtain a taxicab license in Medfield along with his business partner Mohamad Halwani.  Selectmen will get input from the Police Chief and will discuss the matter at their next meeting.

Agreed to allow the Medfield High School's Amnesty International Club to hold a vigil for Malal Yousafzai at the town gazebo on Dec. 1 at 5 p.m.

ACTION ITEMS

Executed a conservation restriction on Lot 3A, Erik Road. The Conservation Commission had previously accepted the restriction.

Approved the minutes from the Nov. 6, 2012, selectmen's meeting.

Approved the Norfolk Hunt Club's request to hold its annual drag hunt on town land on Thanksgiving Day.

Approved the request of Basil restaurant to stay open late on November 21 and to close at 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning.

Approved a maximum expenditure of $1,500 to hire a beaver trapper.

MEDFIELD STATE HOSPITAL UPDATE

Heard the Medfield State Hospital mediation is moving along. A long session was held on Nov. 20.  The next mediation session will likely be held in January. The town is still reviewing additional test reports that have come in. Heard the public information session that was held recently went well and another will be held when ready.

ALSO LEARNED...

Selectman Ann Thompson reported that she will not be running for re-election after 30 years on board.

The town has received a large binder of documents regarding the tax credit application made to the state by the Gatehouse Group for its proposed 40B project on West Street.

The Christmas lights at Baxter Park will go up this weekend, and the Christmas tree lighting will be Dec. 7.

The Angel Run is now run by the Medfield Foundation and will be held on Dec. 2 at the Wheelock School.

The Medfield Foundation is now accepting applications for outstanding volunteers.

The board was proud of the Medfield High School sports teams this year including the MHS Girls Soccer Team which won the D2 State Championship on Saturday.

The board was proud of all Veterans Day activities held in town including a program at Blake Middle School and the luminary display at Baxter Park.
