Selectmen Meet with Warrant Committee, Accept DeSorgher Resignations, Hold Hearing on Former Varney Plant

Here's an overview of what happened at the March 19 meeting of the Board of Selectmen.

 

Here's a quick look at the business conducted at the selectmen's March 19 meeting.

Tuesday's meeting was the last meeting for Ann Thompson who has served continuously on the board for 30 years.

"There's a time to come and a time to go, and it looks like it's time to go," said Chairman Thompson, who thanked the town for the opportunity to serve. "I really appreciate it."  

Items discussed on Tuesday included:

* Opened public hearing regarding an earth removal permit for applicant Michael Lueders dba West Mill Street, LLC. Granted the permit with the usual conditions. 

* Met with Warrant Committee for one hour to review the annual warrant for the April town meeting. Learned the committee does not intend to present an override but does plan to recommend a debt exclusion for a new town garage and a cost of living increase for employees and a merit increase for managers.

* Voted to author a letter confirming that the Medfield Cultural Council is an appointed committee in the town of Medfield.

* Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Richard DeSorgher from the Downtown Study Committee, Committee to Study Memorials, and the Medfield Historical Commission effective March 24, 2013. DeSorgher is running unopposed in the March 25 town election for a seat on the Board of Selectmen. 

* Approved the meeting minutes of March 5, 2013, with revisions.

* Approved a request from the Democratic Committee to use a meeting room in Town Hall.

* Granted Barbara O'Connor a one-day wine and malt beverage permit for a "Reception to Honor Ann Thompson" to be held at The Center at Medfield on March 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

* Granted permission to the Medfield Music Association to post signs promoting Annual Jazz Night to be held on April 26 in the MHS auditorium.

* Granted permission to Norfolk Mosquito Control to land at the Route 27 landfill sit for annual larvicide applications.

* Granted the Council on Aging a one-day wine and malt permit for March 27 Supper Club and April 17 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

* Granted Medfield Baptist Church permission to use the gazebo for a gospel concert on June 8.
