Selectmen Agenda: Town Meeting Warrant, Dale Street School and State Hospital Update

The Medfield Board of Selectmen meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall.

Medfield’s selectmen are expected to open Tuesday’s meeting with a visit from Medfield Superintendent of Public Schools, Bob Maguire as he discusses the statement of interest he and his administration are preparing to submit to the state regarding potential future funding and project approval of renovations to the .

Over the past month, Maguire and the Medfield School Committee have been discussing renovations needed at the Dale Street School and how those renovations could tie into a possible “master plan” of town facilities by the town, which has been discussed internally by the Medfield Permanent Building Committee but has yet to be presented or discussed by town officials at a Board of Selectmen meeting.

In preparation for renovations that are and will be needed at the Dale Street School, Maguire and his administrative team have worked to develop a statement of interest they hope to submit for review by the state if approved by the Board of Selectmen at Tuesday’s meeting.

“Once we get to the point where we have completed looking at [the] priorities [of Dale Street School], identifying what [the priorities] are, then [the application] requires a vote of the school committee and a vote of the Board of Selectmen to be able to actually submit what is called a statement of interest,” Maguire told the school committee at its Dec. 5 meeting.

The deadline to submit the statement of interest is Jan. 11 and while the town has not made any indication or commitment to a “master plan” for facilities, Maguire explained the importance of beginning the process early.

“I really want to emphasize that this [statement of interest] really isn’t anything that’s a commitment to do a building project,” Maguire told the school committee. “It really isn’t the town saying we’re heading down this road [of a master plan] but it is the initial study and step that we need to take to have any of that considered down the road. It is a lengthy process.”

The selectmen are also expected to discuss a street light program and hear an update of the status of the , primarily regarding letters from DCAM and DEP in response to the Phase II and IRA Plan.

The selectmen will also vote to open the 2012 Annual Town Meeting Warrant.
