In December, the Greater Boston Tea Party announced a new leader, according to the Boston Globe.

Haverhill's Christine Morabito took over for the group that has dominated political headlines over the last two years and made waves in the 2010 midterm elections.

Since its inception, though, the tea party has often been a source of controversy. Many blame tea party members for political stalemate in Washington resulting from ideological purity.
