Poll: Gov. Patrick, Cuomo Place Friendly Super Bowl Wager

Gov. Deval Patrick finalized a Super Bowl bet with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo are placing a friendly wager in advance of Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.

In honor of Super Bowl XLVI, Governor Patrick wagered 46 Centerville Pies, Legal Sea Foods clam chowder and 46 cases of all natural chips from Food Should Taste Good.

Governor Cuomo wagered 46 cheesecakes from Junior's in Brooklyn, 46 cases of New York-made yogurt and 46 dozen bagels from Ess-a-Bagel in Manhattan.

The loser’s wager will be donated to a charity of the winner’s choosing.

“In the spirit of good sportsmanship, I wish the Giants well -- but not that well!" said Governor Patrick. “We are looking forward to bringing another Super Bowl championship back to Massachusetts. Go Pats!”

In typical New York fashion, Governor Cuomo provided some trash talk to the wager and echoed the Giants' confidence heading into this game.

"We all know what happened the last time the Giants and Patriots squared off in the Super Bowl, and there is no reason to believe the outcome will be any different this year," Governor Cuomo said. "I look forward to congratulating the Giants on winning their fourth Super Bowl title and seeing Governor Patrick's generous wager offerings go to a food bank here in New York State."

Super Bowl XLVI will kick off on Sunday, February 5 at 6:30 p.m. EST.

In 2008, Gov. Patrick and then New York Governor Eliot Spitzer engaged in a similar wager for Super Bowl XLII, which broke the hearts of many in New England when the Patriots fell to the Giants, 17-14.

As a result, Gov. Patrick owed Spitzer two dozen Legal Sea Food dinners made up of scrod, scallops and clam chowder and several pints of Brigham's "Boston You're My Home" vanilla ice cream. Spitzer had waged two-dozen servings from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse and several cheesecakes from Junior's in Brooklyn. The food was donated to charity.
