Name Chosen for New Roche Brothers Store

The name was announced at the Nov. 4 Planning Board meeting. What do you think about the name?

Representatives for Roche Bros. met with the Medfield Planning Board on Monday, Nov. 4, and announced the name of its new small concept store: "Brothers Marketplace."

The store is located in the former Lord's Department store which closed its doors in February. The plans presented to the Planning Board showed a revamped "low profile" Main Street exterior with bright green paint, glass, and stone wrapping around the corner. There would also be patio seating on the Main Street sidewalk.

The rear entrance would include an extended entranceway/patio, some outdoor merchandise, and a "green wall," and the South Street side of the store would include a circa 1950s mural that would pay homage to the former Lord's store.

"I feel the mural on the side of the building is a very nice touch to keep the spirit of the store," said Tom Kelly, whose family owned Lord's for many decades.

The parking lot would be reconfigured and library patrons would still be able to park in the back lot as they have for many years by right of a license granted to the town from the property owner.

The 9,000 square foot store will include several departments: Grab 'N Go, Bakery/Cafe, Floral, Cheese and Bread, Prepared Food, Dairy, Frozen, Grocery, Meats, Seafood, Bulk, Produce, and a lunch counter near the Main Street entrance.

Lighting would include 20 foot tall parking lot lights as well as 14 foot tall historic-themed lighting; new fencing and vegetation will be installed along the lot lines with the neighbors in mind.
