Meeting Notes: Selectmen Discuss Proposal of Site on Ice House Road; Other Items

The Medfield Board of Selectmen met Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the second floor of Town Hall.

The Medfield Board of Selectmen met Tuesday evening and took action on numerous items on its agenda but the main topic of discussion revolved around use of 2.8 acres of town land on Ice House Road.

Selectmen brought attention to a proposed sports facility development on a 2.8 acre site owned by the town at Ice House road. Attorney Neil Roche, representing Medfield resident Robert Borrelli, spoke to the board about their proposal.

In a memorandum received by town officials June 2 and obtained on Selectmen Osler Peterson's personal blog, Borrelli plans to develop a 120,000 square foot building on the site. Cost of construction is estimated between $5-6 million.

A concept plan of the proposed site also was shown during the meeting.

"More than a year ago … we did a lot of looking into this land," Roche said during the meeting.

Developments will continue with this project as the town's planning board, zoning board of appeals and the conservation commission must review the projects.

Among other items, the selectmen unanimously approved Kenneth Feeney, the town's Superintendent of Department of Public Works, request to sign the Chapter 90 Project Request. It regards cold plane, overlay and traffic markings for the following streets: Dale Street, Spring Street, Adams Street, West Street, High Street and South Street.

Selectmen also unanimously approved June 7 board minutes, Feeney's request to award two bids for a garbage truck and front end loader machinery — totaling $139,857 and $145,000, respectively.

Unanimous approval also was given to accepting documents concurring a portion of land located at 22 School St. as a Conservation Restriction — although Selectmen Ann Thompson did not vote, citing a conflict of interest by personally knowing people involved.

Approvals to children's librarian Ann Russo request to use the town gazebo Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their summer reading kick-off event was accepted, in addition to a request to conduct the annual Cycle for Life bicycle ride through town on Oct. 2.

The selectmen also are accepting letters of interest for those looking to serve a vacancy on the Medfield Housing Authority Board. Although no date has been set for the special election, the board is looking to July as a possible occasion.
