Made up vehicle fees, sites with no links and even sites with taglines at the top that indicate they are not affiliated with a government agency have sprung up on the Web of late.

On Thursday, on Boston Public Radio, Registrar of Motor Vehicles Rachel Kaprielian confirmed the existence of fake websites, and advised drivers to look for the state seal on each webpage. She also said beware if a website is charging additional fees for services. The safest route, she said, is through the Registry's new site, www.massrmv.com.
