If you’re heading into Boston and planning on using the Mass Pike/I-90, be prepared for lane closures this weekend, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

According to the departments, the ceiling removal project at the Prudential Tunnel is entering its final stages where traffic flow will be altered by the work.

“Both agencies are proud to announce that due to the faster-than-anticipated progress on the ceiling removal,” said Sara Lavoie, a spokesperson from the MassDOT, “the fourth and final weekend’s impacts will be significantly less than over the previous three working weekends.”

Starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and running through noon on Sunday, April 27, the eastbound side of the Mass Pike will be reduced to a single lane under the Pru Tunnel, according to officials. Westbound lanes will, however, remain open and fully operational. All exit and entrance ramps along the turnpike and tunnel, including all downtown Boston, will also remain open, as normal.

Officials are suggesting, however, that anyone coming into the city during the above mentioned times should consider using public transportation or seeking an alternate route, if possible. If you're planning on using the Pike during the work zone periods, allow for extra time to get to your destination.
