Honor Your Local Veterans on Medfield Patch

Instead of our daily poll question today, we are recognizing Veterans Day! Send us the names of those you would like to honor, thank, and remember this Veterans Day.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs website, in November 1919, when President Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of "Armistice Day," what would eventually become Veterans Day, he said the day, "...will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory…."

The day was officially recognized by Congress with a concurrent resolution in 1926 and then modified in 1954 to become "Veterans Day" as we know it today, but the "solemn pride" Wilson commemorated in that original proclamation is still shown by communities all over the country every Nov. 11.

In Medfield, the will bring the town together to honor those who served, and those who are still serving, in every branch of the military.
