Dispose of Household Hazardous Waste on Saturday

Today, April 6, is this year's Household Hazardous Day.

A household hazardous waste collection will be held for Medfield residents at the Medfield Highway Garage TODAY (Saturday, April 6) between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

This is for Medfield residents only and a MTS sticker is required.

Residents can safely dispose of oils, oil paint, (not latex) pesticides, herbicides, banned chemicals, photographic chemicals, brake fluid, antifreeze and un-usable gasoline.

To ensure safety, residents are asked to:

  • Tighten caps and lids
  • Leave material in original labeled containers, when possible
  • Pack items in sturdy upright boxes with newspaper
  • Sort and pack pesticides and household cleaners separately
  • Remember to never mix chemicals

For more information about the disposal of hazardous household materials, contact the Department of Public Works at 508-906-3003.

Prescription Medications

Residents are also reminded that excess or outdated prescription medications can be dropped anonymously into the collection box at the entrance of the Medfield Police Station on North Street.

Disposing properly of prescription medications, particularly addictive painkillers such as morphine, codeine, and oxycodone, is an important tool in preventing abuse.

This self-service drop box is provided free to residents by Medfield Police and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office.

About the Highway Garage

The Permanent Building Committee asks taxpayers to use this opportunity to evaluate the 40-year-old Highway Garage as they drive through to leave their hazardous materials.

On April 29, Town Meeting will be asked to approve a warrant article to replace the current building and approve an estimated $11 million override to fund its replacement. The measure will also have to pass at a special town election the following day, on April 30.
