Dan Winslow Announces Additional Local Aid; Medfield to Receive $88,651

GOP sponsored amendment yields added funds for local towns – Medfield will receive the second-largest return ($88,651), behind Walpole, which will receive $155,865.

Medfield's State Representative, Dan Winslow (R – Norfolk), announced Tuesday that unspent money from last year’s budget will be added to the budgets of cities and towns in the Commonwealth.

Winslow announced Medfield will receive $88,651 in additional local aid. Other towns in Winslow’s district will receive the following:

  • Millis, $64,029
  • Norfolk, $58,648
  • Plainville, $46,397
  • Walpole, $155,865
  • Wrentham, $57,018

“Local aid is critical in maintaining and improving education, public safety and infrastructure in local municipalities and towns," Winslow said. "These are top priorities of mine because they help to preserve quality of life for citizens. I am pleased to have supported this successful amendment sponsored by my colleagues in the GOP Caucus.”

Medfield Board of Selectmen chair, Osler "Pete" Peterson, explained in his blog post, "Medfield to Get $88,651 'Treat' from State," that the funds are a result of the state returning fiscal year 2011 "monies it earlier took away, when the budget looked worse."

Peterson said the Office of the State Comptroller will close the state's finance books by Oct. 31 and then the funds will be "formally recognized and distributed by the Department of Revenue."
