5 Things to Know About Medfield's Annual Town Meeting Monday

Medfield's Annual Town Meeting arrives on Monday, and for voters looking to attend, here are five things to know about what's involved this year, including the time and location and sveral highlights from this year's Annual Town Meeting Warrant, which can be downloaded here

Time, Location & Quorum

The meeting itself will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28 in the Medfield High School Gymnasium. A quorum of 250 voters is needed for officials to act on the articles in this year's Town Meeting Warrant.

Green Communities Potential

If passed by voters, two articles on this year's warrant would bring Medfield a step closer to being dubbed a "Green Community" and qualifying for a grant of $148,000.

Article 34 looks implement a "Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic Overlay District," while Article 35 looks to enact a Stretch Energy Code to regulate the design and construction of buildings for effective energy use. 

Funding for New Water Tower 

Also to be factored in this year is an article regarding funds related to the construction and replacement of a water tower at the Medfield State Hospital.

Funding for new "Pocket Park" Near Starbucks

Article 38 on the Warrant looks to appropriate funds for the construction of a "pocket park" on town-owned land between Starbucks and Zebra's, and also looks to name the park. 

A Pocket Park Steering Committee was appointed in October 2013 to initiate a public planning process to design the 5,352 square foot park and recommend its name. More information on the park can be found here. 

New Use of Lot 3 on Ice House Road for Development

Article 27 on the Warrant looks to transfer the care, custody and control of Lot 3, a parcel of town-owned land off Ice House Road, to the Medfield Park and Recreation Commission. Article 28, meanwhile, looks to authorize the Medfield Board of Selectmen to lease Lot 3 for private industrial and/or commercial development.
