Medfield Police returned a wallet to a woman who dropped it in Shaw's on April 21 after it was found on Green Street and turned over to the police. The woman reported the money that was in the wallet had been taken.

Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. said the unknown person who found the wallet in Shaw's "took the money out of it before discarding it on Green Street," where it was later found by an individual, according to police reports.

The individual who found the wallet came into the station at 5:30 p.m. to report the incident. Medfield desk officer informed the woman that her wallet had been found. At 6 p.m., the woman came in to the station to pick up her wallet and reported that her wallet was stolen from Shaw's, according to police reports.

Meaney said there is very little investigating the department can do because of the way the incident occurred.

"There is an exterior camera and cameras by the cash registers [at Shaw's] but none that I know of in the aisles," Meaney said. "No further information has been collected. Since it is not believed that any credit cards were taken, we will not have any photos from places where credit cards could subsequently be used."
