South Street Closed as Area Firefighters Work on 2-Alarm Medfield House Fire

No injuries reported in House Fire at 180 South St. Tuesday. South Street remains closed at 12:15 p.m.

South Street is currently closed after a Tuesday morning house fire at 180 South St. caused significant damage but no injuries.

Medfield Chief of Police Robert E. Meaney Jr. said a UPS driver called in the fire Tuesday morning.

"No one was home," Meaney said. "If [the UPS driver] didn't see it, it could have been a lot worse."

Meaney did not know the time the call came into the station but the Medfield Police detail officer at South Street off Route 27 said just after 11 a.m. the street had been closed for “about 50 minutes.”

Firefighters from Walpole, Millis, Westwood and Dover assisted the Medfield Fire Department with the 2-alarm house fire, which was put out before 11 a.m.

Meaney, Medfield Fire Chief William Kingsbury and other Medfield fire and police personnel remain on scene speaking with the owners of the residence and assessing the damage.
