Rt. 27 Car Chase Ends in Natick With Assault on Officer

A man fled Medfield after being pulled over for running a red light.

A car chase up Route 27 ended near the center of Natick just after midnight on Wednesday morning and resulted in the arrest of Alaric D. Robin, 22, of Brockport, N.Y.

Medfield police pulled Robin over after he failed to stop at a red light and once pulled over, decided to make a run for it, said Lt. Brian Grassey of the Natick police.

"There was a motor vehicle violation on South Street by Route 27," said Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. "The driver refused to stop the vehicle until he finally turned into a gas station in Natick."

The chase, which only reached about 40 mph through Natick town center, ended at Midtown Mobile at 78 North Main St. when Robin stopped the car. A Natick officer approached Robin, who allegedly struck the officer several times, according to Grassey.

"It was less of a chase and more that the individual simply did not stop his car and continued to drive through Medfield, Sherborn and finally stopped in Natick," Meaney said. "The driver was arrested by Natick police after assaulting their officers and a female passenger was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation."

Natick Police took Robin into custody and charged him with failure to stop, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, operating a car under the use of drugs and marked lanes violation, said police. Medfield police is charing Robin with a traffic violation and failure to stop for a police officer.

Grassey said police found a substance in Robin's possession known as "Phat Pugs," which he described as a potpourri incense-like substance sold online. Grassey said that although Robin has been charged with OUI, the material must be tested to determine if there are any illegal substances in the mix.
