Police Logs: Fires, a Transformer Explosion and Family Disturbance

Highlights from Medfield police and fire logs from April 9-17.

Monday, April 9:

7:54 a.m. (Ambulance run) – Woman called from Jacob Cushman Drive to request the ambulance for her mother, who had a cut on her head. Ambulance transported patient to Grover Hospital.

10:20 a.m. (Arrest made) – Woman from Jacob Cushman Drive called and requested to speak with an officer about an individual assaulting her mother this morning at their house. Charges for assault and battery were filed against a 20-year-old Medfield resident from Jacob Cushman Drive. The resident was charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury. Medfield Police did not release the name of the individual arrested. Woman assaulted was transported to Glover Hospital.

1:26 p.m. (Vandalism) – Man from Wilkens Glen Road came into the station and requested to speak with an officer after he came home and found some damage done to his mother’s vehicle. Officer spoke with the man and looked at the vehicle. There was minor damage and no report was needed.

9:10 a.m. (Animal complaint) – Resident called to report a deer on North Meadows Road by Hospital Road that needs to be picked up. Highway Department notified.

11:57 a.m. (Larceny report) – Man from Frairy Street called to report someone in an old Chevy pickup truck was taking some metal off the railroad tracks. Medfield Chief of Police Robert E. Meaney Jr. reported he was out with the pickup truck on Frairy Street and reported the man was picking up bottles and cans along the tracks.

2:44 p.m. (Animal complaint) – Caller reported she had an injured raccoon in her yard. Animal Control notified and reported she had to put the raccoon down.

4:10 p.m. (Ambulance run) – Caller reported she would like an ambulance at Blake Middle School for a student who is not feeling well. Student was transported to Norwood Hospital.

Wednesday, April 11:

1:35 p.m. (Fraud) – Woman came into the station to speak to an officer about a case of fraud she has with the Medfield Police Department. Officer spoke to the woman and reported that the Registry of Motor Vehicles made a mistake and changed her license number.

2:45 p.m. (Fire) – Officer reported a resident at 299 North St. was burning brush without a permit. Fire Department notified and the resident will put out the fire.

Thursday, April 12:

2:56 p.m.  (Assist a citizen) – Owner of Fernando Hair Design in Medfield called and requested to see an officer about a past problem he was having. A letter of disinvite was issued to the person he was having a problem with.

Friday, April 13:

11:45 a.m. (Ambulance run) – Woman called to report her friend is having trouble breathing. Ambulance transported patient to Norwood Hospital.

3:14 p.m. (Disturbance) – 911 caller reported his son was causing a disturbance. Caller reported son had left the scene in a silver Honda sedan. It was reported son would be staying with friends.

3:51 p.m. (Fire) – Motorist reported a fire somewhere in the area of Fairview and Eastmount Road. Caller felt the fire was not under control. Fire Department reported the fire was in a fire pit and there was no problem.

5:52 p.m. (Suspicious activity) – Caller reported a white male wearing a turquoise colored shirt hanging out in the ATM lobby of Citizens Bank without any purpose. Caller was concerned the person might be trying to see people’s pin numbers. Officer reported man was not at Citizens Bank at time of arrival. He checked the area with no luck.

8:50 p.m. (Fire) – 911 caller reported a transformer explosion near 84 West St. Second 911 call came in reporting a small fire from the explosion. Fire Department was on scene reporting primary down with a fire. NSTAR was notified. NSTAR was on scene at 9:17 p.m., Columbia Gas was on scene at 9:35 p.m. and all units were cleared at 10:02 p.m.

9:29 p.m. (General services) – Multiple calls regarding power outages related to the transformer fire on West Street.

Saturday, April 14:

10:29 a.m. (Fire) – Man from High Street called emergency 911 to request the Fire Department. The man had a working brush fire.

4:02 p.m. (Noise complaint) – Man from Wilkens Glen Road called to report three gunshots or fireworks that just went off behind his apartment unit and may be coming from Main Street. Officer checked the area with no luck.

8:28 p.m. (Fire) – Man called emergency 911 from 59 Frairy St. to report a fire in the woods on the backside of the building. Medfield Fire notified.

Sunday, April 15:

11:36 a.m. (Fire) – Desk officer from the Dover Fire Department radioed the Medfield Fire Department to request a truck for station coverage in Dover.

3:23 p.m.  (Miscellaneous complaint) – Caller reported kids behind the apartment building in the woods at 59 Frairy St. Woman would like the kids removed as last night they started a campfire. Officer responded but reported kids were gone on arrival. Officer did notified CSX about a box with wires coming from it going to the rail. Officer wasn’t sure if CSX put it there. The wires were seen between Cottage and Dale Street crossing. At 4:05 p.m., CSX reported lights at railroad crossing weren’t working. CSX reported someone pulled the wires out of the ground and they would fix.

5:35 p.m. (Fire) – Caller reported kids have a campfire off Causeway Street on trail No. 14. Officer reported he was out with a group of eight in the woods. Fire was put out.

5:50 p.m. (Assist another agency) – Walpole Police called to report they had two dirt bikes on Route 27 heading towards Medfield.

Monday, April 16:

12:14 p.m. (Disturbance) – Woman from High Street called to report her husband was “trying to kill her,” according to police logs. Officer was notified and reported the daughter will stay and watch her parents.

12:36 p.m. (Miscellaneous complaint) – Caller reported a mattress in the road between Main Street and Sherborn town line. Officer notified and reported there was nothing in the road upon arrival.

1:01 p.m. (Vandalism) – Man called from South Street to report his house had been egged. He would like to speak to an officer.

1:30 p.m. (Missing property) – Man walked into the station to drop off a wallet he found at Hinkley Pond on Green Street. The wallet had $20 in it, a debit card and a school ID.

9:30 p.m. (Mischief) – Caller reported kids in the tot lot of Metacomet Park ad they were very loud and may be causing some damage. Officer reported four females were in the lot and were not causing any problems.

Tuesday, April 17:

7:15 a.m. (Miscellaneous complaint) – Woman at Wood End Lane called to report her car, parked in her driveway, had two flat tires and she wasn’t sure if it was a result of malicious destruction to property. Officer responded.
