Snowstorm: Accidents, Trees and Wires Down, 9 year old Stuck on Hospital Hill

Here's a glance at the Medfield safety log for Friday, March 8, the day of the latest storm.

 

Friday, March 8 (snowstorm)

7:13 a.m., Preservation Way. Vehicle (1999 red Toyota) abandoned on Spring Street that was able to be moved onto Preservation Way. Was ticketed and towed.

7:22 a.m., Pine Street and Flint Locke. Caller reported a tree down. Fire Department moved tree to side of road. 

8:20 a.m., Upham Road and Main Street. E911 caller said she was stuck in the snow at Upham Road and Main Street. At 8:22 a.m., she was on her way.

9:22 a.m., Granite Street. E911 caller said he was just in a car accident; minor damage, no injuries. Vehicles were a 2003 Honda Civic and a 2003 GMC pickup. 

10:17 a.m., Main Street. Several callers reported a tree branch is in the power lines near 310 Main Street and it is smoking. NSTAR notified and arrived at 10:51 a.m. 

11:16 a.m., Pondview Road. Car accident involving a 2005 Jeep Grache and a 2004 International truck which is now leaking fuel.

11:50 a.m., North Street. Walk-in report of harassing phone calls.

12:29 p.m., West Street and West Mill Street. Caller reported a large branch down across the wires. One lane of traffic. NSTAR notified. 

1:17 p.m., Upham Road. Three cars are stuck. Highway Department responded.

1:25 p.m., Elm Street. Chief Meaney reported a large branch down and partially blocking road near 45 Elm Street.

1:28 p.m., Pine Street. Caller reported lines down near 32 Pine Street and no one can pass; road closed. NSTAR arrived at 2:02 p.m; repaired by 2:18 p.m.

1:38 p.m., High Street. Police reported a tree on top of a car near 59 High Street. 

2:11 p.m., Linden Court. Well-being check. All was well.

2:31 p.m., Harding Street. Police reported a car in the woods past Haddock Lane. Tow company called.

3:22 p.m., Main Street. Several E911 calls about power lines on fire near 256 Main Street. NSTAT notified. 

3:50 p.m., Pine Street. Caller reported "very low hanging wires" in front of 111 Pine Street. Police determined they were telephone wires and moved them to the side.  Homeowner will call Verizon.

4:01 p.m., Pound Street. Elderly caller reported no heat in Tilden Village. NSTAR and Fire Department were notified.

4:12 p.m., West Mill Street. AAA reported a member stuck in a snowbank near 16 West Mill Street where he had almost been hit a couple times. The car was moved at 4:38 p.m.

6:16 p.m., Kettle Pond Way. Caller reported a tree down and blocking road.

6:21 p.m., Hospital Road. Caller reported the structure next to the water tank at the State Hospital appears as though steam or smoke is coming from it. Caller concerned there is a propane tank next to it. Medfield Police and Fire responded. 6:39 p.m., all clear. 

7:06 p.m., station. Highway Department foreman said his department is heading home and will be back at midnight to work on roads again.

7:13 p.m., Indian Hill Road. Caller said she just got home and her front door was open. Police said the house was secure and it appeared to be an oversight.

8:43 p.m., Main Street. Caller requested assistance with a patient. 

8:50 p.m., Pine Street. Walk-in request from a Pine Street woman who wanted to leave her car in the Dale Street dirt lot while she cleared out her driveway.

7:03 p.m., Johns Avenue. Caller asked that the end of Johns Ave be plowed; "it looks like it has never been touched." DPW contacted. 

7:26 p.m., Hospital Road. E911 caller said he was across from the State Hospital site wehre people go sledding and his Jeep is stuck in the snow and he has his nine-year-old sister with him. Tow truck called but would not go into the field to get the vehicle. Subjects were taken back to the station to be picked up.
