Police Log: Dead Bird in a Box, Slow Driver Causes Concern, Truck Taking Water from River
The following information was provided by the Medfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
Thursday, Aug. 22
10:58 a.m.: A person walked in to the police station to report a Mercury Grand Marquis driver had been driving slowly on North Street, from Dover, so slowly that the person thought the driver might have a problem. Dover Police were contacted. They checked and the driver of the car reported he was fine.
12:53 p.m.: A caller on Causeway Lane wanted to speak to the animal control officer about a stray cat.
2:15 p.m.: A large spill from a Tresca truck was reported in the area of Main Street. Tresca Brothers were notified by police and would send someone out to clean it up.
6:10 p.m.: A caller on Cranmore Road said two men were going door to door and selling windows. A sergeant responded, and told them to go get a permit at Town Hall and to stop for the night.
9:38 p.m.: A resident of Jacob Cushman Drive reported a car kept coming down the street, shutting its lights off, then leaving, and then coming back again. Police checked and determined it was a son who had his mother's car, who was visiting a friend in that neighborhood.
Friday, Aug. 23
9:50 a.m.: A woman reported a suspicious black SUV had a man sitting in it, parked on Millbrook Road. Police checked and the man was a resident of the area and talking on his cell phone.
2:04 p.m.: A man on West Street reported he had a dog that he found in the street and it needed to be picked up. The animal control officer picked up the large golden retriever and took it to the Medfield shelter. About an hour later, a woman called looking for her dog. She was told the dog was at the shelter.
2:51 p.m.: A director at MassPIRG called with a list of 10 people who would be working in Medfield for the annual MassPIRG education and membership drive.
3:18 p.m.: A man reported a hydroseeding truck was pumping water from the river at South Street and Indian Hill Road. He did not get a name on the truck. Police checked the area but the truck had left.
3:54 p.m.: A caller on Robinson Road reported someone at her house doing work had taken her cell phone.
Saturday, Aug. 24
10:00 a.m.: A man from Haven Road said he was on Noon Hill Road and taking a walk up to the peak when he came across a camp fire that was still smoldering. He had no water to put on it. Police relayed the call to an EMT who said he would check on it.
2:36 p.m.: A caller at Cumberland Farms gas station on Main Street said three young girls were there and an unknown man was harassing them. He had since left. Police were investigating.
3:35 p.m.: A caller on Park Street said a dog had been barking for awhile, and he wasn't sure if it was hurt. Police checked and the dog was fine.
7:06 p.m.: A caller on North Street said she had a sickly fox in her yard. A message was left for the animal control officer.
Sunday, Aug. 25
5:27 p.m.: A caller on Wilkens Glen Road said he had a box on the sidewalk in front of a building with a dead bird inside that might have West Nile virus. An officer spoke to the animal control officer, and she said he could dispose of it, because the state no longer tests for this on dead birds. The caller told police he would dispose of the bird.
