Police Log: Coyote with a Jar on its Head, Car Runs Through School Bus Lights

The following information was provided by the Medfield Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Sept. 23

8:38 a.m.: A caller reported that a mailbox on Boyden Road had been removed from its granite post and he found it down by the marsh, along with a large number of empty beer cans. He requested extra patrols.

9:13 a.m: A woman reported she had lost a large white envelope on North Street containing papers. If found, she asked to be contacted.

10:48 a.m.: CSX told police that workers would be working on the crossing at Main Street, causing the gates to go up and down.

1:34 p.m.: A woman said she had received a call from a man with an accent who told her he had her brother and would harm him if she didn't pay them. Police are investigating.

2:19 p.m.: A man walked into police headquarters to report he had had his identity stolen by someone who then signed him up for 10 Verizon Wireless accounts. Police are investigating.

Tuesday, Sept. 24

7:59 a.m.: A caller reported a horse was loose on Harding Street near the railroad tracks. He was concerned for its safety. The animal control officer responded and reported the horse had been returned safely.

9:56 a.m.: A security service reported an open door alert on a Main Street address, and also two loose dogs. Police called ADT and had them contact the homeowner.

12:02 p.m.: A school bus driver walked into police headquarters and reported that earlier that day, a vehicle drove through the flashing red lights activated on her bus. The woman completed an RMV complaint form, and had taken note of the license plate.

1:05 p.m.: A firefighter reported the left turn arrow on Route 109 West, on to Route 27 South, was only allowing two cars at a time to go through. The police chief said it was a timing problem and he would handle it.

6:39 p.m.: A caller reported the guide wire on the telephone poles on Grace Drive had been broken. Police responded and found that NStar had already wrapped the wire around the pole and taped it.

Wednesday, Sept. 25

12:50 p.m.: A caller asked to speak to an officer about someone using her credit card out of state. The bank had requested a police report.

2:30 p.m.: The Medfield Public Schools reported that a bus driver said the traffic lights at South Street and Main Street were not changing. An officer checked the lights and found they were OK at that time.

Thursday, Sept. 26

4:24 a.m.: An elderly man fell at a home and was taken to Norwood hospital.

7:50 a.m.: Several callers reported a coyote was near the old landfill on North Meadows Road, trying to cross the road, but had a large jar stuck on its head. The Animal Control officer responded and was able to get the jar off the animal's head. It then ran off.
