Police: Incident on Granite Street Thursday was for Medical Assistance

Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney Jr. said units responded to Granite Street Thursday morning to transport a resident who needed medical assistance to Dedham District Court.

If you drove by Granite Street in Medfield Thursday morning, you likely saw a number of police units in the area.

Medfield Chief of Police Robert E. Meaney Jr. said the incident involved a resident on Granite Street “who needed some medical and psychological assistance” and that it was nothing serious.

“It was done as a result of a warrant that was issued by the Dedham District Court,” Meaney said. “We used individuals from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council, who are specially trained to take people into custody using minimal force, which substantially reduces the risk of injury to all parties.”

Meaney added while an arrest was made in the “technical sense,” it is viewed more as assistance.
“We viewed it as more of a tool to assist the individual in obtaining the
help they needed,” Meaney said.
