Police: Dorchester Man Arrested on Dangerous Weapon, Open Container Charges

Lawrence Jackson, 58, of 20 Blakeville St. Apt. 2, Dorchester faces multiple charges after he was pulled over and arrested by Medfield Police on Feb. 4.

A Dorchester man is facing multiple charges, including carrying a dangerous weapon, after he was pulled over in his motor vehicle and arrested on North and Dale Streets Saturday, Feb. 4.

Lawrence Jackson, 58, of 20 Blakeville St. Apt. 2, Dorchester was arrested by on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon (Blackjack), drinking alcohol from an open container in a motor vehicle and a number plate violation.

The incident occurred around 1:36 a.m., according to police logs and the call, according to Medfield Chief of Police Robert E. Meaney Jr., came into the station from Dover Police, who reported Jackson’s vehicle as “suspicious.”

“[After the call from Dover Police], Officer Daniel Pellegrini [of Medfield Police] observed the vehicle on North Street coming from Dover and stopped the car for a motor vehicle violation related to the license plate … I believe that the plate light was out,” Meaney said.

Meaney said while officer Pellegrini was speaking with the driver, he observed an open container of alcohol and a knife in the glove compartment.

“While the operator was looking for the registration, a knife was observed in the glove compartment [by officer Pellegrini],” Meaney said. “As a result, the officer asked the driver if he could search the vehicle for other weapons. During this process the 'Blackjack' was found.”

A Blackjack, according to Meaney, "is typically made of leather with weights stitched into the end. It is held in one hand and used for striking a person." It is often known as a baton when used by law enforcement.

“Simply possessing a Blackjack in Massachusetts is a felony … Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 269, Section 10b … which can result in serving time in state prison,” Meaney said.

After Jackson was placed under arrest, Medfield Police called Wellesley Police for a K-9 drug dog, according to police reports.

“Conversation during the stop led to the possibility of drugs being in the vehicle so an available K-9 from the Norfolk County Sheriff’s officer arrived in a few minutes and conducted a search without finding any drugs,” Meaney said.

The female passenger riding with Jackson was not arrested and did not face any charges. She left the scene in a taxi while Assured Collision towed the motor vehicle.

Jackson was held until 9 a.m. Sunday on $40 bail.
