Monday's Wilkens Glen Apartment Fire Leaves Tenants of 6 Units Homeless

The apartment fire that occurred Monday evening in Building 3 of the Wilkens Glen Apartment Complex on 909 Wilkens Glen Rd. and Brook Street has left tenants of six units without a home.

“[The tenants] of the apartment where the fire was heated will be out for awhile,” said Chief William Kingsbury. “The other five apartments had to find housing and be with family for the night and we are going to assess it further today to see if they can get back in. Some may be out for a longer duration until the apartments are clean.”

No one was injured but one apartment was heavily damaged from a fire that, according to Kingsbury, likely “started in the kitchen area,” but as of now he cannot confirm what caused the fire.

“One apartment was heavily damaged and there was five others that there was some sort of smoke or water damage,” said Kingsbury.

The Fire Department received the call around 5:45 p.m. Monday. Two engines and one ladder truck from Medfield responded to the scene and a Mutual Aid engine from Millis also responded. Walpole Fire covered the Medfield station while it responded to the scene. Kingsbury said “probably 20 guys” were at the apartment complex.

Medfield Fire will return to the scene today to further assess the damage and investigate the cause of the fire.

“We are going back to look at it today and see if we can find out anything more,” said Kingsbury. “Sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t.”
