Medfield Police Received 108 Calls Day of Tropical Storm Irene

Medfield Police received 108 calls of Tropical Storm Irene related incidents on Sunday, Aug. 29.

hit the region hard Sunday, Aug. 29, leaving nearly 500,000 across the state and over 4,000 in Medfield as a result of the storm’s impact.

On the day the storm hit the area, Medfield Police received 108 calls reporting Irene related incidents, mainly from residents reporting trees and wires down throughout town. The worst of the storm’s destruction was trees falling through houses and on cars. Some fires were reported to the Medfield Fire Department but were mostly low hanging wires from utility poles. The Medfield Police Department, along with the majority of town, lost power for nearly seven hours on Aug. 29. The following are the calls Medfield Police received the day Irene hit Medfield.

6:07 a.m. – Caller reported a tree across the road on Indian Hill Road. Officer notified Ed Hinkley and the Medfield Tree Department. Road was reported open so cars could pass.

7:05 a.m. – Woman from Causeway Street called emergency 911 to report a tree came down on to her house and was reportedly on fire. Fire Chief William Kingsbury reported no fire but NSTAR wire from Pole No. 71 was down and there was no power to the house.

7:10 a.m. – Woman called to report a tree down on Hartford Street in the area of Main Street, Route 109. Edward Hinkley was notified.

7:52 a.m. – Woman called from Nebo Street to report a tree in the wires. She called NSTAR.

8:10 a.m. – Officer reported a tree down at Main and Hartford Streets. Officer reported the Highway Department removed the tree.

8:20 a.m. – Man called from Bridge Street to report a tree into the wires and into the road. NSTAR was notified. Officer reported no problem with the wires and tree in the road.

8:41 a.m. – Man called from his cell phone to report traffic lights at Main and South Streets were not working. A call came into the station for Main and Spring Streets. Officer reported no power to the lights at Main and South Streets. Lights were not working at all. Lights at Main Street and Spring Street are OK at time of report.

8:45 a.m. – Officer reported a smell of sewer at the sewer pumping station off South Street. Sewer Department notified.

9:06 a.m. – Homeowner called from Indian Hill Road to report a tree was down in front of his house. Medfield Tree Department notified.

9:23 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down Bridge Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

9:25 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down at Vinald Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

9:26 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down in the road on Hartford Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

9:50 a.m. – Medfield Police Department is without power.

9:59 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Dale Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Knollwood Road. Officer reported no tree down on Knollwood Road.

10:10 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Causeway Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:11 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Hearthstone Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:13 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Causeway Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:16 a.m. – Sergeant Burton reported tree down at Clayton Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:19 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down across the road at Spring Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:22 a.m. – Officer reported an NSTAR pole that bent way over on Main Street by the Millis town line on Route 109. NSTAR notified.

10:24 a.m.- Caller reported a tree down on Wood End Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:36 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Granite Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:41 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on High Street by Homestead Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:46 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down at Saw Mill Lane and Wood End Lane. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:51 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Hickory Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:52 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Philip Street. Officer reported no tree was in the road.

10:52 a.m. – Caller reported three trees down on Granite Street. Tree Department notified.

10:52 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Main Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

10:59 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Causeway Street by Causeway Lane. Ed Hinkley notified.

11 a.m. – Woman from Cross Street called emergency 911 to request the Medfield Fire Department for a tree that went into her house.

11:04 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Henderson Way. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:07 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Hearthstone Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:08 a.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi reported a tree down on Bridge Street. Medfield Fire Department took care of the problem.

11:08 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Plain Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:11 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Tubwreck Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:12 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on 82 West Street. Ed HInkley notified.

11:15 a.m. – Caller reported no power at Brastow Drive. NSTAR notified.

11:16 a.m. – Caller reported a tree into their garage at Cross Street.

11:21 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down at Cross Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:29 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Causeway Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:34 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Philip Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:36 a.m. – Ken Feeney called to report a tree in the power lines at Hearthstone Drive. NSTAR notified.

11:43 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Philip Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:44 a.m. – Officer reported a tree down with wires on Forest Street.

11:45 a.m. – Caller reported a tree into a house at Prentiss Place.

11:46 a.m. – Woman called from building four of Wilkens Glen Road to report a tree came down onto her car. Medfield Fire Department responded with police officer.

11:56 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Snyder Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:57 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down with wires on Hartford Street by Main Street. NSTAR and Medfield Tree Department were notified.

11:57 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Prentiss Place. Ed Hinkley notified.

11:58 a.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Harding Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:02 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Hickory Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:18 p.m. – Caller reported wires down on South Street. NSTAR notified.

12:21 p.m. – Caller from South Street reported wires in the road. NSTAR notified.

12:22 p.m. – Wires down in the street on Bridge Street.

12:22 p.m. – Caller reported wires down and fire in the road at Bridge Street.

12:22 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on High Street and Wild Holly Lane. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:29 p.m. – Officer reported tree down across the railroad track behind Park Street. Desk officer notified.

12:36 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Miller Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:48 p.m. – Caller reported from Spring Street to report a tree down and would like someone to check it out. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:53 p.m. – Fire alarm came into the station for Pleasant Street.

12:53 p.m. – Officer reported a tow truck driver is removing a tree from the road on North Meadows Road by the Sherborn town line.

12:54 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down at Main Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

12:54 p.m. – Caller reported a fire at 88 High St.

12:55 p.m. – Caller reported wires hanging on Evergreen Way. NSTAR notified.

12:58 p.m. – Caller reported tree down on Main Street by Tubwreck Drive. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:02 p.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi reported he reset the traffic lights at Main Street.

1:03 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Plain Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:15 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Harding Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:30 p.m. – Caller reported a fire in the trees at High Street.

1:45 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Woodfall Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:49 p.m. – Caller reported wires down on Flint Locke Lane. NSTAR notified.

1:57 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on 34 Hartford St. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:58 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Granite Street by Bridle Field Lane. Ed Hinkley notified.

1:58 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on 36 Hartford St. Ed Hinkley notified.

2:01 p.m. – Caller reported a branch in the wires at Orchard Street and Niantic Street. NSTAR was notified.

2:07 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Orchard Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

2:09 p.m. – Caller reported tree down on Ledgetree Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

2:17 p.m. – Officer reported he was out with the Medfield Highway Department on Hartford Street clearing trees.

2:27 p.m. – Caller reported tree down on Philip Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

2:34 p.m. – Caller reported tree down on Wood End Lane and Saw Mill Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

3:01 p.m. – Officer reported a tree down on Main Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

3:15 p.m. – Caller reported a tree came down on his house at Granite Street. Medfield Fire Department responded to take a look at it.

3:15 p.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi reported two main phone lines coming into the station from Verizon are not working at this time. A Verizon workman at the Pleasant Street office was notified by police officer. He is now working on the problem. At 4:16 p.m. worker from Verizon at the Pleasant Street office called to report all the Medfield Police lines coming into the station are back up and working. They all were tested and all are OK now.

3:26 p.m. – Caller reported tree down on Lowell Mason Road and Meade Avenue. Ed Hinkley notified.

3:32 p.m. – Caller reported a tree in the wires at Spring Street. Medfield Fire Department and Tree Department notified.

3:34 p.m. – Caller reported a wire down on Main Street and Tubwreck Drive. NSTAR notified.

3:37 p.m. – Caller reported a tree down on Orchard Street. Ed Hinkley notified.

3:56 p.m. – Officer reported a tree down blocking the road at Vine Brook Road and Hatters Hill Road. Ed Hinkley notified.

4:01 p.m. – Caller reported she had no power at Laurel Drive. NSTAR notified.

4:09 p.m. – Caller reported a tree between 24 and 27 Evergreen way was about to come down. The road was closed for now.

4:14 p.m. – Caller requested the police for a car that was stuck in some NSTAR wires on South Street. There was a call into NSTAR. Sergeant Wilhelmi reported NSTAR was on the scene at 4:58 p.m. At 5:05 p.m. Medfield Fire Department reported NSTAR had cut the wires and had removed it from under the car and they were back on their way. At 5:10 p.m. officer reported the road was back open and clear.

4:49 p.m. – Medfield Fire is going to check on a tree into a house in the area of Pueblo Road and Shawnee Road. Officer was enroute to check on the same.

5:11 p.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi reported a tree down on the NSTAR wires in the area of High Street and Wild Holly Lane. Medfield Fire Chief William Kingsbury reported his men checked it out Sunday morning and reported it to NSTAR.

5:27 p.m. – Officer reported a worker for NSTAR wanted to close Route 27. There was a large tree on the wires and it may take a large number of poles and wires down. Sergeant Wilhelmi closed Route 27 between Curve and South Streets. Robert Kennedy Jr. was notified and was enroute with road closed signs.

5:40 p.m. – Man from Wood End Lane called to report a tree on the wires in front of his house. NSTAR notified.

7:04 p.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi requested two detail officers for Route 27 road closed on Route 27 between Curve and South Streets for NSTAR. At 10:10 p.m. officers reported on Route 27 is now back open for traffic.

7:55 p.m. – Caller reported a tree in the wires and the tree is on fire at Park Street. Medfield Fire Department was notified and enroute.

8:36 p.m. – Man from Wood End Lane called to report a tree into the wires in front of his house. He also reported he had o power. Desk officer notified NSTAR.

8:55 p.m. – Officer reported the traffic lights at Main and North Streets are on flash. At 9:18 p.m. lights were back working.

9:20 p.m. – Sergeant Wilhelmi reported he was out at Main Street and South Street with the traffic lights. They are now on flash. He reset them and they began working again.

9:55 p.m. – Robert Kennedy Jr. reported wires down at a Stagecoach Road. Medfield Fire Department was notified and enroute to check on them.
