UPDATED: Middlesex Savings Bank on Main Street Robbed

Police say suspect matches description (white male, 5-foot-9 with a mustache and goatee) of bank robberies in Foxborough, Easton and Saugus. Man did not use a weapon in the robbery.

Medfield Police are investigating the town's first bank robbery in over a decade after Middlesex Savings Bank at 495 Main St. was robbed just after noon on Friday.

"This is the first bank robbery since I have been here," Medfield Chief of Police Robert Meaney Jr. said. "There have been two others in the past 10 to 15 years."

At 12:01 p.m. a white male, approximately 5-foot-9, weighing approximately 140-150 pounds, entered the bank by the front door and passed a note to one of the tellers explaining his demand,  said Medfield Police in a press release.

The suspect did not use a weapon or threaten the use of a weapon during the robbery, police said. He left the bank by the rear door after receiving an undetermined amount of cash, according to police. No vehicle was observed and the suspect fled the area in an unknown direction, police said.

"I am not sure of the amount [of cash] taken," said Meaney. "The bank auditor was still reviewing the situation."

Meaney reported everyone in the bank at the time of the robbery are doing fine and praised one employee for her cooperation with the suspect.

"The teller that was involved in the robbery did an outstanding job, remaining calm and professional," said Meaney. "The employees [were] doing OK."

The suspect was described as wearing a long sleeved, dark colored top, blue jeans, sneakers and a dark colored knit cap with a brim. He also had a mustache and a goatee, police said.

According to Mass Most Wanted, the description of the suspect "matches the description of bank robberies which occurred in Foxborough, Easton and Saugus."

"This is a joint investigation between Medfield and Foxboro Police, the Massachusetts State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Middlesex Savings personnel," said Meaney.

The bank closed shortly after the robbery Friday but Meaney said the bank will reopen for business Saturday morning "for their normal hours."

Medfield Police ask if you have any information about the identity of the suspect, or where he is to contact the department at (508) 359-2315.
