Marijuana at Metacomet Park

Two were issued bylaw citations for possession of marijuana.

According to police records, on Thursday, April 4,  at 10 p.m., Medfield Police Officer Wayne Sallale was patrolling the south sector when he noticed a vehicle parked and running in the dark in an unlit parking lot of Metacomet Park.

This area has had past drug-related issues including sales and use. He approached the vehicle and saw two people -- a boy and a girl-- in the front seat.

Sallale asked the operator, Boy 1, to produce a driver's license and asked if there was any other marijuana in the vehicle; Boy 1 said No.

At this time, Sallale called for backup and Officer Flaherty and Sgt. Burgess arrived.

Police were concerned about the sobriety of the operator and asked both occupants to exit the vehicle.

At this time, the passenger was identified as Girl 1.

According to the report, a search of the car produced:

  • a brown plastic bottle containing an herb-like substance believed to be marijuana
  • several glass pipes
  • seemingly heavy burned marijuana residue

Concerned about the safety of the boy and girl, they were asked to call for rides from the scene.

Boy 1 was issued a Town of Medfield By-law Citation for possession of marijuana (less than one ounce). His parents picked him up and drove his care home.

Girl 1 was issued a Town of Medfield By-law Citation for possession of marijuana (less than one ounce). She was picked up from the scene by her father.

When returning to the station, the contents of the plastic bottle containing the herb-like substance believed to be marijuana was weighed (.30) and logged into an evidence locker.
