Find it All at the Swap Area of Transfer Station

Its reputation preceded it though I was a bit skeptical – how could all of the rave reviews be true?  But then I saw it for myself … the Swap Area at the Transfer Station.

This area of the Transfer Station is set aside for gently-used items that one person no longer wants but another person could surely use.

You name it, it’s there.

On my first trip to the Swap Area, I discovered books, toys (including a large plastic playhouse), furniture (including end tables and lamps), rugs, housewares (from can openers to dishes), holiday items, and yard tools (including two lawn trimmers). 

This week, one lucky treasure seeker scored a nearly-new wicker patio set that was in excellent condition. The four-piece set presented a bit of a problem when it didn’t fit in her car but due to the generosity of strangers – who offered to watch over the furniture while she made several trips – she was able to get it home.

The Swap Area is particularly busy on Saturdays with lots of items coming in and going out; it’s also a bit of a gathering place with people hanging around waiting for “the good stuff.”  I’m told some people make a weekly jaunt to the Swap to see what goodies they can find.

So, if you have something around the house that you think someone else could use or that is in good condition and you just can’t see throwing away, consider dropping it off at the Transfer Station; and, if you’re looking for a good book, toy, or just about anything else, consider swinging by the Swap Area on your next trip to the Transfer Station – you never know what you’ll discover.

The Swap Area follows the Transfer Station schedule but closes early at 3 p.m. and a transfer station sticker ($50 at Town Hall) is needed for access.
