There is a Gem of a Gardening Resource in Our Midst….

information about the Mass Horticultural Society at Elm Bank in Wellesley and upcoming events at MassHort

I wanted to spread the word about the Mass Horticultural Society-- it is a gem of a resource located just a few miles away on Elm Bank Reservation in Wellesley on Route 16

I just received an email loaded with interesting and fun events between now and the end of the year. I am cutting and pasting below from their newsletter but please check out their website for more information. masshort.org

Massachusetts Horticultural Society welcomes you to our gardens and horticultural center, located on 36-acres in the historic Elm Bank Reservation.

We offer hands-on opportunities for adults and children to experience, enjoy, and learn about plants and the environment.

The site includes various gardens, including the Bressingham Garden designed by Adrian Bloom, the historic Italianate Garden, our new Garden to Table Chef's Garden and its Food Pantry Garden, an educational New England Trial Garden, and the whimsical Weezie's Garden for Children. Several plant societies and garden clubs have also installed permanent demonstration and display gardens at Elm Bank.

Additionally, we offer a unique event venue for weddings, receptions, parties, and corporate outings.

The Massachusetts Horticultural Society's gardens and the grounds at Elm Bank are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to dusk and are free to members


Growing and Showing! A Fairy Garden Workshop for Kids

  Saturday, November 10th 10 am-12 pm

There are still spaces available for this workshop where kids ages 8-12 can plant their own Fairy Garden, with help on how to exhibit that garden at the 2013 Boston Flower and Garden Show.  

 

 Thursday Nights at the Hort

Presentations will begin at 7pm and go until all questions are answered.The classes are priced at $12 for members and $15 for non-members unless otherwise indicated. There is no need to pre-register and you may pay at the class.

Upcoming "Thursday at the Hort" presentations include:                 

  • November 8: Forcing Hardy Bulbs 
  • November 15: Creating a Container of Succulents
  • November 22: Thanksgiving (no class)

The Overseers of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society will present the Fourth Annual Festival of Trees at Elm Bank  from  

Friday, November 23 through Saturday, December 8, 2012.

FESTIVAL OF TREES WREATH WORKSHOP


Come create beautiful wreaths and swags to take home for the holiday season! The
Festival of Trees Wreath Workshop will be held on Saturday, December 1st at 10:30 a.m. in the Putnam building at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA.

Price: $45.00 for Mass Hort members, $55 for non-members.

Space is limited to 20 participants and pre-registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring clippers and/or strong scissors. All other supplies will be provided.

 Mass Hort is working with New England Bridal Affair for their 3rd Wedding Event held at the gardens at Elm Bank. There will be roughly 30 vendors featured to answer your questions and offer advice.

 Every Bride will receive:

  • Free Gift Bag from Beantown Bride
  • Opportunity to Win a Free Honeymoon to Paris, France the "City of Romance " (Please Register at the Love Affair Booth!)
  • Prizes, Raffles, Food Samplings, Cake, and Live entertainment

 $7 per person if you bring a guest and $10 per person if you arrive alone

Saturday November 17th Succulent Container Workshop with Carrie Waterman
10 am-12 pm in the Putnam Classroom at Elm Bank
Make your very own succulent container. Learn from an expert how to plant an attractive container of these wonderful plants. All materials will be provided including a nice selection of succulent plants suitable for a mixed container, pots, special soil mix, plant labels and top dressing. Aftercare instructions will be included along with information about how to propagate succulents and how to exhibit your container at the 2013 Boston Flower & Garden Show!
Deadline for registration is Monday, November 12th.
Fee: Members $60 per container; Non-members $75.00 per container.
