Future of Medfield -- What MHS Students Want in Town

What Medfield High School students want to go in the empty buildings of Medfield.

Despite its rich and fascinating history, Medfield seems outdated. Buildings are empty. New, trending stores and restaurants are sparse. Students at Medfield High School want change.

Rumors circulate the town arguing what will go into the locations of Lords, Friendly’s, and the Mobil gas station. Although the rumors lack certainty, Medfield High School students unquestionably share strong opinions about what they want or do not want in the town.

The question, “What do you want to go into Medfield center?” was asked to eighty students, twenty students from each grade, ten girls and ten boys. The majority answered similarly despite their grade and gender. According to the survey, Medfield High School students want to see a frozen yogurt shop, Panera, or Chipotle in the center of town.

Senior Cally Lavin states, “I hope it is something other than a nail salon, pizza place, or bank.”

Several other students agree with Cally, and none chose any of those options when responding to the survey question.

Although Medfield High School students are not the deciding factor regarding what will come to Medfield, we have our opinions and would love to see a change reflecting our wishes.

Senior Kris Soderlund’s statement seems to reflect the entire student body, “We need something new and different, somewhere high school students would normally go to get food.”

Students want new, different, and affordable: quick, easy place to grab good quality food.

Another less popular, but still common response to the survey question was the hope for recreational areas or forms of entertainment, places where high school students would be willing to go on a boring Friday night. Student suggestions include a sports pub, skating rink, sky zone, or drive-in movie theater.

It is not possible to accommodate all of Medfield High School students’ desires. But with opinions stated and hopes spelled out, maybe one wish can come true.
