Join the Conversation: Connecting our youth

Community Conversations

Do you ever worry that your child is changing, trying to fit in, conforming to their peers, and staying under the “bully radar”? You are not alone. Many of us are having the same concerns and conversations around this issue that our kids feel like they need to wear a mask just to fit in. Don’t you think it’s time we get together to figure out what we as parents to can do?

We are by no means experts; we are a group of parents with an observation, that there are a ton of wonderful things about a “small town community” but there are some draw backs. In a small community it is more challenging to “find your group,” especially at an age where you are still trying to figure out who you want to be. This is where we as a community need to help.

We are excited to announce a great opportunity where parents and kids can share a snack or a cup a coffee, participate and make a difference.  These meetings are opened to all whether your family is experiencing this issue or you just want to be part of the solutions.

Medfield Youth Outreach in partnership with a parents' group, will be hosting two focus groups. We scheduled two different times for working and stay at home parents to be able to come and one for the kids to attend. These focus groups are open to all middle school students and parents who are either experiencing this same issue or simply want to be a part of this change!

1)Parents meeting – this is a great opportunity for parents to be involved in brainstorming various opportunities to make a difference in our children’s lives and make them feel comfortable in the great community we are in.

2)Kids meeting – getting the kids involved in these discussions to talk amongst themselves will help us better identify their needs and I’m sure they will come up with some great suggestions! Our children need to know that they are an important part of this process and we can work together as a team to make a difference.

Please pass this information along to anyone you know that may be interested in participating. We hope to discuss creative options/solutions and make some positive changes in our children’s lives.
