Please vote yes on town meeting article 28 - Ice House Road Land for Commercial Use

I am writing this to ask for a "yes" vote on town meeting article 28.    This article, if passed, will allow the selectman to lease lot #3 (behind the Kingsbury Club) on Ice House Road for commercial purposes.

A local builder has submitted a proposal to use this land to build a indoor sports facility, which would include 3 turf fields, 1 boarded turf field and 4 basketball courts.   This facility could be used to support indoor play for soccer, basketball, lacrosse, softball and baseball.

Right now we have 26 teams from Medfield playing at the 4kicks facility in Norfolk and over a hundred other children, in various sports, having to use indoor facilities in other towns for practices.

What are the benefits to the town for having an indoor sports facility in this location?

Increased tax revenue
Closer facilities for our children
More jobs in town
Additional foot traffic for other local businesses

In a time when we have just committed tax dollars in town to purchase the state hospital, red gate farm land and a new highway garage as well as a potential new public safety building in the near future, this would allow us to mitigate some of the financial impact with increased tax dollars.

While a "yes" vote does not guarantee the creation of a indoor sports facility, as other potential uses for the land might arise, it does open the door for a facility which is much needed in town.
