A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Bishop's Summer Academic and Fun Enrichment program - B-SAFE - which this year will serve 625 elementary and middle school children and 125 teen counselors-in-training in eight locations in the Boston area.

   * Four days a week youngsters attend morning academic programs which include technology classes, visual and musical arts, writing, math, and sports followed by lunch, reading time and afternoon field trips to parks or cultural institutions.

   * Fridays they take day-long field trips outside the city, to a farm, lake or recreation area.

   * The summer camp complements a year-round after school enrichment program.

Participating teens benefit from leadership training as well as college and career mentoring.

    * The children come from underserved neighborhoods, and represent varied cultural and religious backgrounds.

    * The majority of the kids would not have a summer program to go to without B-SAFE.

    * The goals of the program are for children to feel safe physically, emotionally and spiritually; feel big by trying new things and advancing academic skills; and feel connected by building relationships with peers and caring adults. The camp works to create relationships across neighborhoods to decrease violence in the city.

Michael Cordero, 16, entered the B-SAFE program as a 3rd grader and is now a staff member."B-SAFE just kind of opened up... a whole new world. The neighborhood I'm in, it's not bad. It just doesn't have as many opportunities as it should."

Join us on May 11, put a smile on Mom's face, beautify your garden, and help a disadvantaged child attend B-SAFE enrichment camp.
