Medfield Lions White Cane Toll Booth for Sight

Medfield Lions to Hold White Cane Toll Booth on Saturday May 14th

The Medfield Lions will hold a White Cane Toll Booth on Saturday May 14th from 10AM to 1PM at various locations around town. The proceeds from this event will support programs and services for people who are blind or visually impaired as well as for sight conservation. Blind and visually impaired people in many countries use the familiar white cane with a red band at the bottom. In 1931, Lions Clubs International began the first program promoting the use of white canes for people who are blind. Lions continue to increase awareness of this "symbol of independence" – and the laws governing its use – during white cane events.  When a person donates they will receive our thanks and a small white cane symbolizing the Conservation of Sight.

Lions have a reputation as the “Doers” in their community. The Lions motto, “We Serve”, is exemplified in the many tangible ways Lions help to make the world a better place, both at home and abroad. Our resources are directed to the needs of our community, prevention and cure of eye disease and diabetes awareness. Some of the Medfield programs we support with funds and our time include: Home Committee, Food Cupboard, scholarships for high school graduates, Animal Shelter, Seniors Christmas party, and the Lions Speech and Peace Poster contests for students. Also, outside of the Medfield community, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Lazarus Fund - Organ Donation, Seeing Eye Dog and Guide Dog training, collection of eyeglasses for reuse and the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
