Why you need a Facebook Marketing Strategy

Your social media platforms should be treated as separate marketing platforms. Despite the mistake that many marketers make, content marketing and social media marketing are not the same; although they work closely together.

Content marketing includes offline and online information and visual content. Most content marketing strategies use a blog as the central hub for content in the form of articles, videos, photos, tutorials, ebooks, etc.; and this is perfect.

Social media marketing utilizes platforms like Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to engage and foster an online community in order to generate more powerful leads, create ‘buzz’ around a brand, increase customer retention, and take advantage of word-of-mouth marketing.

The issue in using the same strategy with content marketing as social media marketing is that it just won’t work! Only posting articles to your Facebook page will not increase engagement. Yes, you will get some ‘Likes’ but the golden ‘Share’ or the preferred ‘Comment’ most likely won’t happen.

You would be an awfully boring date if you only talked about how amazing you were. However, if you took some time to listen to your date, found out what interested them and then went on to talk about subjects that interested your date but were still relevant to you (be genuine), and you mirrored their tone and style of speaking – you’d have them engaged instantly. People care about themselves – not your brand (not yet anyway).

Be authentic; be engaging. Listen first; post second.

Treat Facebook as its own platform, with its own marketing strategy. If you were your audience, what would you want to learn about? What would make you the most interested?

Mix it up. Add some video clips, behind the scenes photos, and slideshows. Then sit back, measure, and listen. What is driving the most engagement from your audience? What types of posts get the most shares?

The next step from here is turning your Facebook fans into leads with Facebook’s fan page tabs.
