An Interior Design Website Gets A Fresh New Look

Diana came to us for a new look…

Diana wasn’t happy with her current interior design website. Many of the site links didn’t work, there were several empty pages or simply boring ones. Her portfolio didn’t come close to doing her interior design work justice. Most important – her website didn’t reflect her individual personality and brand.

We selected a minimal, high contrast design with a responsive layout

After our discovery consultation with Diana, we were able to ascertain that special “look and feel” she was seeking to appropriately define her design style. We defined her online marketing goals, and mutually agreed on a minimal, high contrast website design that truly showcased her work. Utilizing a simple color scheme of black, white and silver with subtle touches of gold, we were able to keep the focus on the most crucial element to her website – photographic reflections of her masterful work.

Simply grouping multiple photographs together in one central place, affords the web user to achieve an instant snapshot of Diana’s interior design style.

We also updated her website technology. We know that high visual sites tend to upload rather slowly. Therefore, we custom loaded each photograph to ensure immediate visual satisfaction to her site visitors. We also changed Diana’s site over to a responsive platform, allowing her site to look equally great on all devices including tablets and mobile.

Adding special effects to the photos will keep viewers engaged with the website

We constructed a smooth photo effect to keep Diana’s viewers engaged while also encouraging interaction through click-thrus on the photos or checking our some of the videos on the homepage. Therefore, when visitors click on any of the portfolio images, a bigger image pops out – allowing the viewer to see it in more detail. Videos are strategically placed in lieu of a photo in any of the boxes, and will play within the homepage.

There is also a horizontal scroll. This unique feature works extremely well for this type of websiteredesign.

Combined, these elements allow for an eye-catching website that encourages interaction while keeping viewers engaged.

Rethinking the portfolio categories

Diana has three main portfolios – Vision, Passion and Inspiration. Our original thought was to recreate three images on her homepage for each category (similar to the original site,) but while browsing through her photos, we came up with another concept.

We realized quickly that Diane’s design projects ran from warm and passionate with bright oranges, gold yellows, chocolate browns and vibrant reds; to cool colors like navy blues and bluish-greens against whites and beiges. She also showed us some funky and colorful fabrics and accessories that have inspired many of her design projects.

Passion, Vision, and Inspiration – tying it all together to reflect Diane’s unique style

We decided to group her photos based on color, with PASSION containing all projects reflecting warm colors (like the sample shown above); VISION showing her cool themed projects; and lastly, INSPIRATION being her collection of colorful and funky patterns and accessories.  A user can click on either PASSION, VISION, or INSPIRATION right from the homepage to see the portfolio collections. This not only reflects Diana’s personality and brand, but it also shows a prospective customer in a clear way the range of designs that Diana has to offer.

We are currently in the development process. Stay tuned for an announcement when Diana’s Interior Design website goes live!
