Mass Audubon Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, September Happenings

Family Programs                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Free Star Parties   8 – 10 pm Friday, September 27                                                                                                                                  Join local astronomers for a look at the stars and other night objects through big telescopes.  The event is on-going, so drop in for all or just some of the evening.  This program is cancelled if sky conditions are cloudy; call Patti Austin at 781-784-5691 x8103 after 7 pm for a recorded message concerning the status of the program if the weather is questionable.  Park in the Nature Center parking lot and follow the marked trail to the viewing field.  Bring a flash light for the short, self-guided trail walk.


 


Family Camp-Outs Saturday, September 21

Join us for a night of camping under the stars.  Bring your own tent, picnic dinner, breakfast food, and enjoy a night under the stars.  Moose Hill will transport your gear to the camp-out field and lead a fun evening campfire before you drift off to sleep to the sounds of crickets and owls.  Moose Hill will provide the S’more makings and dinner/breakfast beverages.  Perfect for novice campers!  Additional information will be emailed. Begins at 6 pm and ends 9 am next morning


Saturday, September 21 Fee per person:  $12 -$17 Pre-registration required by Wed. prior to the program

Geology Rocks Sunday, September 29; 1 - 2 pm


Join Patti Austin for an afternoon of rocking good fun.  What are rocks made of?  Learn how to use a simple key to identify rocks at Moose Hill and in your yard.  Play our rock cycle game and see if you can move through all the rock stations.  Make a “treasure stone” (complete with hidden treasure) to take home and crack open later.  Fee per person:  $5 - $8 Pre-registration required

Autumn will be arriving soon…search for evidence of the change in seasons.  We will explore, hike, play trail games, and observe for signs of summer’s passing.                                                                        Wednesday, September 18, 10 – 11:30 am or 1-2.30   Fee:  $8 - $11

Moose Hill Walkers   September 16,23,30                                                                                              Join Patti Austin for a weekly walk to see the arrival of fall while learning the trails for walks later on your own. Participants must be able to maintain a steady walking pace for the hour


. Fee per walk $5-8


 


Stump the Naturalist


Sunday, September 29; 3 – 4 pm Free


Join Patti Austin for a walk and talk along the trail to seek out fall’s arrival.  Bring your nature questions.  Walk cancelled in inclement weather, call before attending.
