Historian Paul LaCroix Return Engagement with More on George Fairbanks Stone House Archaeological Dig

Back by popular demand, Millis Historical Society President Paul La Croix will return to the Millis Library on Saturday, March 22 from 1:30 – 3:00 pm, to speak on his recent archaeological dig that rewrote early Millis history. His initial presentation in October on “The History of George Fairbanks' Stone House at Bogastowe Farms” attracted a standing-room only crowd. In his March 22 presentation, La Croix will also provide further information on the iron smelting works that was touched upon only briefly in his previous program. A must for residents of Millis and surrounding areas and history buffs everywhere.

This program is free and open to the public. Limited seating so suggest arrive early.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Millis Public Library.  For more information, call the library at 376-8282 or visit www.millislibrary.org .

What began as a relatively unremarkable quest to find the elusive remains of the ancient stone house back in 2005 has revealed evidence supporting an entirely new and more accurate interpretation of the history of Millis. Recently unearthed colonial artifacts that have lain beneath the hay field just north of South End Pond in Millis for more than three and a half centuries are only now beginning to give up their secrets.  Consequently, the information disseminating from these diagnostic artifacts has allowed for a whole new and more accurate interpretation of the facts concerning this area's history, while both clarifying and debunking much long-held tradition in the process.  Many of the artifacts can be viewed in the two display cases located just inside the Library parking lot entrance.

The Friends of the Millis Public Library is an independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that promotes the Library within the community by funding programs and services that would not be possible within the constraints of the Library budget.  Membership is open to all.
