A Treat for Early Music Lovers

On Thursday, October 18 at 7:00 PM Church of the Advent, 28 Pleasant Street, Medfield, will hold a special service to celebrate the Feast of St. Luke.  We are delighted to announce that we will have as a special guest , the Zefiro Choir during the service. The choir will sing William Byrd's Mass in Four Parts.. William Byrd (1540-1623) was an English composer and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I’s.  He wrote in many of the forms current in England at the time, but especially excelled in composing sacred polyphony. Byrd's output of about 470 compositions amply justifies his reputation as one of the great masters of European Renaissance music.

The Zefiro Choir is a Boston and Providence based ensemble of eight singers devoted to performing vocal music of the 14th -17th centuries. Founded as a collaboration, this award-winning group takes inspiration from specialist groups from around the world such as the Tallis Scholars, the Sixteen, and the Taverner Consort. Zefiro's credits include winning a project grant from the Somerville Arts Council, chapter of the Massachusetts Cultural Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and performing in the SoHIP Summer Concert Series since 2009.

Please join us for this special evening of glorious music. A reception with light fare will directly follow the service.
