Weekend Planner: Sept. 9-11

Annual fair, 9/11 ceremonies and the great outdoors on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Medfield Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. Annual Dover Fair

Where/When: , 5 Springdale Ave, Dover; Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Dover Parks & Recreation Department will once again host the annual Dover Days Fair Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. on the Dover Town Common. This 32-year-old-plus tradition promises a full day of fun for families of all ages. There will also be a 5K Pumpkin Ride Race, planned activities for children and families include rides, a rock climbing wall, hayrides, moonwalk, monkey walk, t-shirt coloring, dice game, duck pond, space shot, and Velcro tic-tack-toe.

The fair will also feature demonstrations, arts and crafts, local businesses, town organizations.  Items for sale include gift baskets, the lap robes, plants, flowers, jams and various other specialties. What fair would be complete without a variety of food options? There will be lots of food and drinks including cotton candy, ice cream, cupcakes, lobster rolls, hot dogs, and hamburgers.

2.  No Grandchild Left Indoors

When/Where: 64 Hartford St, Medfield; Sunday, Sept. 11, 1 to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate National Grandparents Day with The Trustees of Reservations and Medfield Children’s Library.  

  • 1pm — Story Time: Sit back and listen to several stories about Grandparents.
  • 1:30 pm — Hike: Join a Trustees Ranger for a hike around Chickering Pond. Head up to Cedar Hill Overlook for a longer walk or continue along the pond for an easy 1/2 mile walk.
  • 2:15 pm — Snack and Craft: Return to the Pavilion for a snack and natural craft to conclude the day.

3.  Peak House to End Summer Tours with 9/11 Tribute

Where/When: 347 Main St, Medfield; Sunday, Sept. 11, 2 to 5 p.m.

Why Go:

The Medfield Historical Society’s Peak House on Main Street will end its summer open house tour schedule on Sunday, Sept. 11 with a special exhibit to solemnly remember those who lost their lives on that tragic day. On the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, the historical society will honor those who died in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania by displaying its historic flag collection on the front lawn of the Peak House. Flags from different time periods of Medfield's history will be on display. The exhibit will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

4. Dover 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Where/When: , 5 Springdale Ave, Dover; Sunday, Sept. 11, 11:15 a.m.

Why Go: The following event, courtesy of the Town Dover Website, provides information on the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to be held Sept. 11: The clergy of the Dover churches have organized a ceremony to recognize the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday, Sept. 11. This will be a local opportunity for the Dover Fire and Police Departments, the area houses of worship and townspeople to gather together to remember that day and honor the men and women whose lives were sacrificed. The ceremony will be held at the flag pole on the Springdale Avenue side of the Town House. Participants in this remembrance program will gather at 11:15 a.m. and the services will commence at 11:30 a.m. and will be completed at noon. The planned services will be simple, prayerful and peaceful. In case of inclement weather, the remembrance services will be held in the Great Hall at the Town House.

5. Edwin McCain Band at Showcase Live

Where/When: 23 Patriot Pl, Foxborough; Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Singer/Songwriter Edwin McCain will perform with his band Saturday, Sept. 10 at Showcase Live. The Adam Ezra Group will also perform. Doors open at 6 p.m. for 8 p.m. showtime. Limited seating available. Seating is first come first seated basis, so be sure to arrive early for best seats and enjoy a full dinner menu.
