Weekend Planner: June 24-26

Open mic night, Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band and a camping trip on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Medfield Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home.

Why Go: Open mic night is back at the Medfield Public Library. Bring a friend and enjoy the fun. Sing a song, read a poem, or share a special talent. The grand piano will be available to play. No sign up required, but if you are in a band and want to bring your own equipment, or just want to let us know you'd like to perform, please e-mail the Teen Services Librarian, Jen Forgit at jforgit@minlib.net. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

2. Mr. Breeze – A Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd at Showcase Live

Where/When: 23 Patriot Pl, Foxborough, Showcase Live; Friday, June 24, 10 p.m.

Why Go: Mr. Breeze, New England’s number one Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band, will perform Friday at Showcase Live. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. for 10 p.m. showtime. Limited seating available and seating is first come, first seated basis, so be sure to arrive early for best seats and enjoy a full dinner menu.

3. Great American Backyard Campout at Rocky Woods

Where/When: 33 Hartford St, Medfield; Saturday, June 25, 9 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Join The Trustees and REI for a night under the stars and discover the joy of camping with your family. This event is perfect for first-timers or those simply looking to reconnect with the outdoors in a pleasant setting. Campsites are a short walk (300 yards) from the parking lot. 

 Utility carts will be available to transport camping gear. Take part in a group hike or choose to go off and explore Rocky Woods on your own. Bring a fishing pole and fish in Chickering Pond located next to your campsite. An optional cookout Saturday night will be provided and cooked community style. If you have special dietary needs please plan on bringing your own food and snacks. After dinner join a Trustees Ranger for an evening hike or share stories and songs around the campfire while roasting marshmallows.

REI outdoor school instructors will teach the several classes on Saturday including a class on essential camping skills as well as leave no trace camping. A full list of events will be e-mailed to you when you register. If you need to rent a tent for this event REI is providing half price rentals on all tents specifically for this event. Simply go to your local REI store and ask for a tent rental for the Great American Campout. Rain or shine (picnic shelter and cabin available for daytime shelter).

When/Where: 0 Hartford Street, Medfield; Saturday, June 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go:  The Powisset Farm in Dover will run a Farm Stand every Saturday at Rocky Woods in Medfield from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by and purchase fresh veggies that was grown right at the farm.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When:  , 33 Walpole St, Norwood; Sunday, June 26, 2 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Norwood Library's renovation.

Pricing: Free.
